Report 6: Dahomey


Having left Niamey on 2 January 1938 aboard the Van-Vollenhoven, Savineau arrived in Gaya in the Niger colony, on 4 January. She left the same day for Kandi in Dahomey (Benin). Most of this very large report (63 pages in length) recounts her visit to Lower Dahomey.

She visited Kandi on 5th January, was in Parakou on 6th and 7th, Nikki on 8th, she spent from 10th to 14th in Porto-Novo, taking in Adjohon, Sakete, Pobe and Hollidje during this spell. 15th and 16th January were spent in Cotonou, 17th in Abomey-Calavi, 18th in Ouidah, 19th-20th in Allada, 21st and 22nd in Abomey, 23rd in Djougou and 24th in Natitingou. On 25th January 1938 she left Dahomey and returned to Niger. She then left Niger from Dori on 29 January bound for the Upper Volta.
